We’re currently transitioning from 50g to 100g skeins. During this period, your order may arrive as either one 100g skein or two 50g skeins.

Number 3 is a dependable DK: soft, structured, and just the right kind of squishy. It was developed alongside what eventually became Number 2, back when we were still relying on our trusted local mill and Sally’s knitting instincts to guide the way. The idea was simple: a heavier version of the same fibre forward yarn, spun to be just as versatile and satisfying to work with.

It’s worsted spun like the rest of the Heritage Collection, but here we’ve gone for three plies instead of two. That extra ply gives the yarn a rounder shape and beautiful stitch definition, especially in cables, brioche, and textured knits. It traps air for warmth, but still feels breathable and balanced. On the machines, it sings. On the needles, it glides.

As always, the fibre story varies by shade - some are single breed, some carefully blended. Shetland is a regular feature, but breeds like Manx Loaghtan shine here too. Their springy, bouncy fleece makes Number 3 feel even more plush.

The resulting fabric is a joy to wear: soft enough for next-to-skin, sturdy enough to hold its shape. It blocks well, bounces back, and only improves with time. Whether you’re knitting a big cosy jumper or a textured throw for the sofa, Number 3 delivers that warm, woolly hug every time.
