There are few things we enjoy more than turning fleece into yarn. Every day in the mill brings its own small moments of joy - the hum of a frame, the rhythm of winding, the moment a skein comes together in your hands. It’s work, but it never stops feeling special.
Which is why we’re so delighted to see those small moments gathered into something bigger. Our friends at The Woolly Thistle have just launched the 12 Days of Cheer Box - an advent style set of yarn, each skein spun right here at Garthenor Organic.
This box is built around Number 2, our trusty sportweight 2-ply. Every skein has passed through our mill in West Wales - blended, spun, and twisted by us - before making its way across the Atlantic. It’s a chance to share our yarn with knitters who might never have picked it up before, and to celebrate the character of British breeds in a format that feels both playful and thoughtful.
The Woolly Thistle have wrapped each skein for twelve days of unwrapping joy: minis and full skeins, naturals and dyed tones, all carrying the stories of sheep, land, and craft. It’s a lovely way to meet our yarn, one parcel at a time.
Our relationship with The Woolly Thistle goes back years. We first met Corinne at Edinburgh Yarn Festival, where her enthusiasm for sharing British wool with knitters in the US was infectious. Not long after, she became one of our earliest American stockists, bringing Garthenor Organic to a whole new community.
Since then, we’ve watched The Woolly Thistle team grow and flourish, and we’ve been proud to see our yarn sitting on their shelves and now in this special box. To be part of their 12 Days of Cheer feels like a natural extension of that friendship.
Alongside the twelve parcels, knitters will also have the chance to add a Day 13 skein of Fallow, our newest yarn. Fallow is made from reclaimed fibre at the mill - the bits that usually get lost in the process, brought together into something new. It’s undyed, surprising, and a gentle reminder that good wool never goes to waste.
We’ve always believed that yarn is more than material. It carries the story of the sheep, the landscape, and the people who shape it. The 12 Days of Cheer Box is a chance to share that story in a new way: slowly, day by day, through the simple act of unwrapping.
